our philosophy

In Palestine, olive oil is a way of life

Palestinian olive oil is genuinely so delicious. At Basita, we want to help people discover just how much high-quality olive oil can elevate a dish, adding depth, brightness, and a richness that ties everything together. Once you start cooking with truly great olive oil, it becomes impossible to leave it out.

OUR PROCESS

How we do it

  • We source our olives from Palestinian family farms in the West Bank that date back generations

  • Our growers pick their olives early in the fall harvest season for the boldest flavors

  • We press our olives right away to capture freshness and maximum flavor

  • Then we bottle it and ship it straight to you!

our story

Behind Basita

Akram & Yumna

Our founders, Akram and Yumna, met in an olive grove (no, really) in the hills outside Bethlehem, Palestine.

Akram, a picky eater, and Yumna, a passionate home cook, don’t always agree on everything in the kitchen. But there’s one thing they’ve never compromised on: great olive oil. In Palestine, it was everywhere. But after moving to America, they struggled to find an olive oil that captured the flavor and quality they remembered from home. They set out to change that. That’s how Basita was born.

FAQ

About our olive oil

What makes Basita olive oil different?

Basita olive oil is produced in small batches on family farms using generational harvesting techniques. Our olives are harvested at peak freshness during the fall harvest season, and immediately extracted to preserve flavor and nutrients. Basita has bolder and fuller flavors than most olive oils on the market, and unlike most brands out there, our oil isn’t mass produced. We take only what the land gives us, and then we share it with you!

Where are your olives sourced from?

We work with trusted growers in Palestine, specifically from villages across the Nablus and Bethlehem areas in the West Bank, which are famous locally for producing the highest quality olive oil.

Is your olive oil extra virgin and single origin?

Yes. Our oil is certified extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), meaning it’s extracted without extreme heat or chemicals and meets strict quality standards for flavor and acidity. Our oil is also single origin, meaning we never mix oils from different farms. When you buy a bottle of Basita, you are getting extra virgin olive oil that was picked and pressed by one family on one farm in Palestine.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes, our glass bottles are recyclable, but we always recommend checking your local city recycling regulations before disposing of the bottle!

Does your oil have any additives?

No, Basita is all natural! Free of GMOs and harsh pesticides, our oil is as simple as it gets.

How long does the olive oil stay fresh?

Olive oil is best enjoyed within two years of the harvest date. For the freshest flavor, we recommend using it within a few months of opening.
